{"id":717,"date":"2017-12-13T12:58:03","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T18:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/150.199.194.25\/?page_id=717"},"modified":"2025-11-10T12:06:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T18:06:29","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.wrightcounty.lib.mo.us\/index.php\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-579 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/150.199.194.25\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/LOGO-209x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"153\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wrightcounty.lib.mo.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/LOGO-209x300.jpg 209w, http:\/\/www.wrightcounty.lib.mo.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/LOGO.jpg 365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/>The Wright County Library was established in 1947 with the headquarters at the county seat in what was the former Pool millinery building.\u00a0 At that time, Mountain Grove had its own public library, but decided to merge with the county system with the understanding that a branch library would open there.\u00a0 In 1948, bookmobile service started to the area schools and county stores.\u00a0 The first Wright county Librarian was Docia Holland, who served until 1956.\u00a0 Nava Austin was then selected as the new county librarian until her retirement in 1996.\u00a0 In May 1997, Carrie Cline was hired as the County Library Director.\u00a0 In June 2001, Judy Epperly was hired as the new County Library Director and served until her retirement in December 2015.\u00a0 Karen Moore was hired as the County Library Director in January 2016 and served until her retirement in December 2021. Teresa Miller was hired, and has been serving as the County Library Director since January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Library Board is composed of five (5) members who serve four\u00a0 year terms.\u00a0 The Wright County Commission appoints new members as required, taking care to ensure the entire county is represented.\u00a0 Members can be reappointed to additional terms by the Wright County Commission.\u00a0 The function of the Board is to set policy, approve the annual budget, and hire the Director. The Board holds regularly scheduled meetings each month, unless it conflicts with other activities. The meetings begin at 6:30 PM at a branch library, and the agenda for the meetings are posted at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Can\u00a0You Be Involved?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are\u00a0many ways you can choose to involve yourself at your local Wright County Library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIn Memory Of\u201d Donations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, many people choose to donate money to the library in memory of a departed loved one.\u00a0 Specific titles or subjects can be specified, but whatever material is selected will be shelved with a bookplate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer Reading Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each summer the Wright County Library participates in the Missouri Summer Reading Program in providing encouragement to children of all ages to read during the summer and have extra fun doing it.
